Russian tithe: Google faces huge turnover fine in Russia

The protocol will be taken to court to bring Google to justice. Now Google faces a huge fine, which can range from 1/20 to 1/10 of the company’s annual turnover.

As noted by Roskomnadzor, since the beginning of 2021, 16 protocols have been drawn up against Google for not removing prohibited content, and the company has already been brought to administrative responsibility in the amount of 32.5 million rubles.

Basically, Roskomnadzor’s claims relate to the popular YouTube video platform, which is owned by Google. It is noted that YouTube systematically fails to comply with the requirements for the removal of materials containing information prohibited in Russia.

At the moment, the YouTube team has not removed more than 2.4 thousand materials that are dangerous, according to the authorities for Russian citizens, including those propagandizing extremism and terrorist organizations, inciting religious hatred, false information about COVID-19 and false information about natural and man-made disasters, and also materials dangerous to the life and health of minors (the so-called “catching”, “roofing”) and calls for minors to participate in unauthorized mass actions.
