Russian troops captured two villages in Ukraine’s Donetsk region

Russian troops captured the villages of Spirne and Novolexandrivka in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced in a Telegram post. The village of Spirne is located in the eastern part of Donetsk, close to the administrative borders of Luhansk region. The village of Novolexantrivka is located approximately 130 kilometers west of Spirne. During yesterday’s briefing of the general staff of the national defense of Ukraine, there was talk of “fierce fighting” in this area, but without mentioning territorial losses. Donetsk is one of four Ukrainian regions (the others being Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson) that Russia announced it would annex at the end of 2022, in a move condemned as illegal by most countries in the General UN Assembly. Russian forces do not fully control any of these regions. Source: RES
