Russian troops landed in Odessa and crossed border, says Ukrainian official

An adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Anton Gerashchenko told reporters on Thursday in an official WhatsApp group that Russian troops had landed in the Ukrainian city of Odessa and were crossing the border into the city of Kharkiv.

Gerashchenko added that there were missile attacks on Vasilkovsky airfield near Kiev.

He also said that Borys Filatov, the mayor of Dnipro, had just called to say he was hearing explosions.

Gunshots and explosions were heard in the early hours of Thursday in several parts of Ukraine shortly after Russia announced a military operation in the neighboring country.

CNN Brasil reporter Mathias Brotero is in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, and reported hearing noises that could be explosions.

Team reporters from CNN in Kiev, they heard explosions in the direction of the city’s international airport. On social media, users reported hearing several explosions in the Boryspil area, east of the capital, where the international airport is located, about 25 kilometers from the city. THE CNN did not confirm that the airport was targeted.
