Russian troops regroup and resupply in Donbass, says top US official

Russia is trying to resupply and bolster its forces in Donbass, according to a senior US defense official, as evidenced by a convoy of vehicles approaching the Ukrainian city of Izyum from the north.

The line of vehicles includes a “command and control element, a support battalion, basically facilitators, perhaps rotary wing aviation support and other infantry support”, according to the official.

The official also said that there is evidence that Russia is trying to reinforce its position southwest of the city of Donetsk mainly with artillery units.

The US does not consider this to be “a new offensive” in the Donbass, according to the official, but that Russian forces are “working to strengthen their capabilities and add them”.

Meanwhile, the US Department of Defense is considering options to train more Ukrainians on the Switchblade drone system, according to the top US defense official.

But the official said no decision had been made on “what it would be like, how long it would take, where it would be, who would train”.

Previously, there were a small number of Ukrainians in the US undergoing military education that the US trained in the system before returning to Ukraine.
