Russian tycoon Suleiman Kerimov’s superyacht Amadea confiscated in Fiji

One superyacht Russian billionaire was seized by Fiji police in the Pacific Ocean, local media reported today. The yacht Amadea, 106 meters long, of tycoon Suleiman Kerimov, valued at $ 325 million (298 million euros), anchored in Fiji the day before yesterday, Tuesday.

Mr Kerimov, who is seen as closely linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has seen US, British and EU sanctions Russian invasion of Ukraine on the 24th of February.

Amadea crew members have been arrested and are being questioned by police, according to an article in The Fiji Sun. A police officer explained that the yacht anchored in Fiji before passing through customs and receiving approval.

Authorities were aware that the yacht had set off for Fiji and were working with partners to enforce international sanctions against Russia, according to international news agencies and the Athens News Agency.

According to media reports, under Fiji law, any ship wishing to dock at Fiji must first obtain permits from the Ministries of Health, Trade and Transport, as well as the Immigration Service.

The U.S. Embassy in Fiji has said it is aware of the yacht’s arrival and is working with island authorities on the issue.

According to the specialized website Marine Traffic, Amadea sailed from Mexico 18 days ago.
