Russian warships entered the Mediterranean for military exercises

A group of ships of the Russian Navy’s Northern Fleet entered the Mediterranean Sea via Gibraltar for military exercises of the Navy, the Russian Interfax news agency reported today, citing a statement from the fleet.

Russian military movements are under close scrutiny as the accumulation of Russian military forces near Ukraine and an exchange of inflammatory statements have caused unrest in the West, sparking fears of an impending war. Moscow categorically denies any plan to invade Ukraine.

Russia announced last month that its navy would hold a series of exercises with all its fleets, and next month, from the Pacific to the Atlantic, in the latest show of strength in a wave of military activity amid a confrontation with the West. .

Interfax reported that the ships that entered the Mediterranean were the cruiser Marshal Ustinov, the frigate Admiral Kasatonov and the destroyer Vice-Admiral Kulakov.

These will later participate in the high schools with the Russian fleets of the Black Sea and the Pacific.
