Russian woman jailed for eight days for writing 'No to war' on her ballot

A woman was today sentenced to eight days in prison by a Russian court for writing “No to war” on the ballot she cast in Russia's presidential election. This woman “took a ballot and wrote 'No to war' on the back with a red marker and then put the ballot in the ballot box,” the Dzerzhinsk District Court of St. Petersburg reported. The court ruled that the accused in this way “damaged state property and discredited the Russian armed forces” and imposed a fine of 40,000 rubles (about 400 euros) and eight days of administrative detention.
