Russia’s security service (FSB) has opened criminal investigations against three journalists, two Americans and one Romanian, who “illegally” crossed the Russian border from Ukraine to report in the occupied part of the Kursk region, Russian news agencies reported today. The two Americans, Kathryn Dees and Fletcher Yeung, work for the Australian television station ABC, while the Romanian journalist Mircea Barbu works for the media outlet HotNews, according to the agencies. They are accused by Russian authorities of “illegally crossing the border of the Russian Federation in the Kursk region,” the FSB said, according to the agency. In total, since August 17, investigations have begun against “12 foreign journalists” with accusations of this type, the FSB said, cited by the Ria Novosti agency.
