Russia’s legislative chamber approves “pro-natal” bill; understand

Russia’s legislative chamber (known as the Duma) approved a bill this Tuesday (12) banning “advertisements” that would discourage the Russian population from having children.

The legislation would ban virtual media and advertising materials deemed “attractive” depicting a child-free lifestyle, and would subject perpetrators to fines – if passed at all necessary levels.

“The law is being discussed. There are critics, especially abroad… This is the law on the future of our State… The ideology they try to impose with “childless propaganda” will make women stop having children”, declared Vyacheslav Volodin, President of the Duma.
