Russia's regional governor is in hospital after being attacked with a knife

The governor of Russia's Murmansk region in the Arctic is in hospital after being attacked with a knife on the street, Russia's Investigative Committee announced today. 45-year-old Andrey Tsibis was attacked yesterday, Thursday, evening “after his meeting with residents of the town of Apatiti” in the Murmansk region, the Commission clarifies in a statement. “A resident of the area attacked the governor with a knife, injuring him,” the announcement states, adding that the attacker was arrested. During his interrogation he stated that he acted “because of his dislike for the governor, although he does not know him personally”, according to the Commission of Inquiry. “I woke up after the operation. I want to say a big thank you to our doctors. And of course to all of you who were concerned and for your support,” says Tsibis from the hospital, in a video posted on Telegram. “Now I will recover and then back to work!”, he added. Andrei Tsibis, a lawyer, has been the governor of Murmansk since 2019.
