Ryan Reynolds honors Michael J. Fox for helping people with Parkinson's

Ryan Reynolds honored his friend Michael J. Fox after he was selected as one of the most influential people of 2024. Reynolds wrote a letter about Fox's importance and impact on his life and the lives of many others.

Fox was chosen as one of Time magazine's 100 most influential people. The list was released last Wednesday (17).

Reynolds said he knows Fox “very, very well.” “He’s funny, he’s warm, he’s very handsome, and he’s intensely intelligent,” he wrote.

“He also falls a lot,” said the protagonist of “Deadpool “. “Not just because he has Parkinson’s disease. He falls a lot because he's not afraid of flying.”

Reynolds also spoke about their friendship, which has lasted 17 years. Over that time, the actor said he saw Fox “raise the bar in passion and purpose” for his Parkinson’s research.

Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson's at age 29, in 1991. In 2000, the “Back to the future ” launched the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for the disease through scientific research and ensuring improved therapies.

This week, Reynolds wrote that Fox helped his father, James Reynolds — who lived with Parkinson's for nearly 20 years — and millions of others “feel less alone.” James Reynolds died in 2015.

Describing Fox as a movie star who “shaped the lives of people around the world with her unique, electric ways and charm,” Reynolds also shared that “Back to the Future” has become her 8-year-old daughter's favorite film. .

“I know I'm lucky to call Mike my friend,” he wrote, also saying that his daughter has “no idea” that her father knows Marty McFly. “I don't need to teach my daughter the level of compassion that Mike has mastered. Or teach her to tell stories like Mike tells stories.”

“I need to teach her that it’s ok to fall a lot,” Reynolds wrote. “It’s the best way to know you’re flying.”
