Ryan Reynolds Says Disney Asked Him to Cut Line from “Deadpool & Wolverine”

The character Deadpool is known for pushing the boundaries, but one element was deemed too over-the-top for “Deadpool & Wolverine” and was cut from the film.

At this week’s Fast Company Innovation Festival in New York, the film’s actor, producer and co-writer Ryan Reynolds said that “there was only one line in the entire movie that they asked me to take out,” according to Deadline.

By “they,” Reynolds meant Disney, which owns Marvel Studios.

When the audience understandably gasped, wondering what that line could have been, Reynolds added: “No, no, no! They were right!”

The actor then began imitating the Disney CEO, saying, “As soon as someone says something, like, ‘Ryan, Bob Iger here. I would love it if you would take that line out. It’s really going to make our lives harder here.’”

He added that when he heard this, “there was something in my brain that said, ‘I have to keep talking! Precious!’”

But as he thought about it, he realized, “Of course I can take that out. Can I say something about Pinocchio instead? And the answer is yes!”

And while we may never know which offending line of dialogue was removed, Deadpool offered plenty of other vulgarities in his latest outing, achieving the feat of being the first R-rated Marvel film under Disney ownership.

If you’re looking for an example, just look at the first trailer for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which contained references to both sex toys and recreational drugs.
