Ryanair departs from Frankfurt Airport

Irish low-cost airline Ryanair will close its base in Frankfurt on March 31 and transfer the five aircraft it has parked there, it said on Friday, citing high airport charges.

All Ryanair flights to and from Frankfurt, Germany’s busiest airport, have been canceled since March 31, Ryanair reported.

The Frankfurt-based pilots and crew were informed on Friday and will be able to apply for jobs elsewhere in the Ryanair network, the company added in a statement.

The airline said it was still investing in its German operations, including a $ 200 million investment in a new Nuremberg base with two aircraft.

Frankfurt Airport operator Fraport said it had introduced an “extremely modest” increase in fees: “Many partners see it as fair. Everyone is treated equally, there are no special rights,” a Fraport spokesman said.
