THE Ryanair is quite confident that the British will vacation in Europe in June, July and August, offering a glimmer of hope for the tourism industry in the midst of gloom due to the increase in cases of Covid-19 in key destinations, according to APE.
Michael O’Leary, chief executive of Europe’s largest airline, said his growing optimism was based on the rapid pace of the vaccination campaign in Britain, which has already given more than half the adult dose to the country.
After jumping into bookings from the UK and Germany, O’Leary said Ryanair plans to operate at 80% of its regular summer schedule in July, August and September.
“I think it is very difficult to persuade people in the UK to stay home or vacation in the country when everyone has been vaccinated,” he told reporters.
Britain currently bans all travel abroad unless it is for business, education or health reasons. However, the government is expected to reconsider the measure in April and possibly allow it from May 17.
“We are quite confident that there will be unlimited holiday travel for British families going to European seaside resorts,” he told Sky News earlier. “We have to be quite confident and optimistic,” he added.
“I think there is a reasonable prospect, higher than 50%, that British families will be vacationing in June, July and August, in theory, in Spain, Greece and Portugal as usual.”
