S. Kedikoglou: ‘Development of aquaculture is a priority of the government’

“The development of aquaculture is a priority of the government and the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis” stressed the Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Simos Kedikoglou during the first teleconference with the National Council of Aquaculture (ESYD).

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, during the teleconference, the new legislative regulations aimed at the more efficient operation of the sector were presented.

Mr. Kedikoglou underlined that the aquaculture sector in our country presents a comparative advantage over the EU, which must be utilized.

According to the same announcement, the Undersecretary was briefed on the key and major issues facing aquaculturists regarding the energy crisis, price increases and shortages of raw materials as a result of the invasion of Ukraine, noting that ways are being considered to address the consequences of the crisis.

The first meeting of the Council was attended by the General Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Christiana Kalogirou, the Head of the General Directorate of Fisheries, Marina Petrou, the President of the Hellenic Aquaculture Producers Organization (ELOPY), Apostolos Touralias, Deputy Lieutenant Production and Aquaculture Agricultural University of Athens, Eleni Miliou, Assistant Professor at the Department of Agricultural Economics and Development of the Agricultural University of Athens, Pavlos Karanikolas, Head of the Department of Spatial Interventions , Animal Aquatic Organisms, Bees and Other Animals of the Directorate of Animal Health, of the General Directorate of Veterinary Medicine, Socrates Perdikaris, the head of the Directorate of Aquaculture, General Directorate of Fisheries of Aggeliki Kallaroti, representative industry actors and service agents.
