S. Zacharaki: From December 15, post-training programs for the unemployed in the tourism sector will start

1,250 employees and temporarily unemployed in the tourism sector in 18 regions of Greece will have the opportunity to participate in a subsidized retraining program, following a decision signed today by Deputy Minister of Tourism Sofia Zacharaki.

Applications for the program start from 15/12/2021 and concern 50 postgraduate departments that will operate the Ministry of Tourism in Athens, Thessaloniki, Nea Moudania Halkidiki, Trikala, Corfu, North Corfu, South Corfu, Volos, Delphi, Agios Nikolaos , Heraklion, Ermioni, Kalamata, Loutraki (based in Corinth), Nafplio (based in Argos), Patras, Pyrgos, Rhodes.

The 5 specialties offered are the following: (a) Reception Service, (b) Food, (c) Culinary Arts, (d) Confectionery and (e) Housekeeping.

The applications are submitted electronically in a special application at mintour.edu.gr from 15/12/2021 until 23/12/2021.

The attendance of the programs, with a total duration of 380 hours, is provided free of charge, is obligatory for the whole educational program and includes a theoretical as well as a laboratory part. Throughout the program, the trainees are entitled to a postgraduate allowance, which is determined and paid by OAED.

Postgraduate departments are continuing vocational training programs, which are not part of the formal education and lead to the acquisition of ungraded degrees. They are addressed to employees and temporarily unemployed in the tourism sector, who do not hold degrees in tourism education. Upon successful completion of their attendance, the graduates acquire the status of employee. The aim of these programs is the continuous training of human resources in the field of tourism.

“Today’s signing marks the implementation of another program in the context of our broader policy to support employees in upgrading their skills, as investing in education remains one of our priorities,” said Deputy Minister of Tourism Sofia Zacharaki.
