The Deputy Minister of Tourism responsible for Tourism Education, Sofia Zaharaki stated:
“At the Ministry of Tourism, we assign a leading role to tourism professional training, as we firmly believe that the quality upgrade of the Greek tourist experience goes through the high professionalism of the people of Greek tourism.
With targeted actions, we put at the core of our initiatives the quality upgrade of the public IEK Tourism, based on the real needs of the labor market and giving our students the necessary resources they need for multiple opportunities and quality jobs in the tourism industry. And we don’t stop here.
We are expanding the curriculum with two new experimental majors, with an emphasis on educational and professional innovation. We issue a new, modern operating regulation of our IEKs and speed up the procedures for the registration of new students, earlier than every other year. We modernized, after eleven years, the internship for students of the Ministry of Tourism schools, while faithful to the commitment of the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, we grant housing allowance for the first time – from this academic year – to the students of all our IEK.
At the same time, we are launching the establishment of the first public Tourism Academy, as part of the collective effort we are making for the overall reform of tourism education. Because tourism is a key pillar of support for the national economy. And upgrading our tourism education means further upgrading and strengthening the competitiveness of our tourism product itself”.
