Sacheen Littlefeather: The Indiana woman who refused to accept Marlon Brando’s Oscar has died

Sacheen Littlefeather has died at the age of 75 Squaw which went down in history because refused to receive the Oscar of Marlon Brando for the film “The Godfather” in 1973. As the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced on Sunday, Littlefeather passed away after a battle with breast cancer.

According to a statement from her manager, cited by the Hollywood Reporter, Littlefeather died at noon on Sunday at her home in Novato, Northern California, surrounded by her loved ones.

“I am representing Marlon Brando tonight and he has asked me to tell you that he is grateful, but regrets that he cannot receive this generous award. And the cause is none other than the film industry’s treatment of American Indians,” Shaheen Littlefeather began her statement.

In a show of obvious disapproval, the crowd booed but Littlefeather kept her cool and finished her statement.
