The City of São Paulo launched, this Friday (21), the São Paulo program safest, a measure that establishes a 24-hour monitoring related to the security of Avenida Paulista, one of the main postcards of the city. One of the initiatives is the use of a robot dog technology implemented to reinforce safety in the region and has been used since December last year.
The robot dog has a people flow monitoring system, real -time data transmission and has a facial recognition front camera, connected directly to the Sampa Sampa system, the city’s video monitoring center.

Since the first use of technology, during the 2024 New Year’s festivities, the robot has the ability to make facial recognition and collect images of vehicle signs.
THE CNN GCM Division Inspector Leandro Ramalho explained that PET not only helps in identifying possible suspects, but also serves as an element of deterrent to criminal activities. The equipment, made in China, is produced by the same company that provides the cameras used in the Sampa Sampa system.
Thefts and thefts in the region
Paulista Avenue faces a significant increase in theft on Sundays, as revealed in an interview with Live CNN By the Secretary of Urban Security, Orlando Morando, who also attributed the phenomenon to the largest flow of tourists on this day of the week.
According to Morando, a detailed survey was conducted to understand the dynamics of crime in the region. THE Avenida Paulista registered an average of 31 theft and five robberies per month, according to data from Urban Security Secretariat referring to the period from August 2024 to January 2025. In total, 3,951 occurrences recorded during this period.
The study data also pointed out that the avenue is mainly targeted by theft and small thefts with peaks of occurrences between 9h and 10h in the morning, and between 12h and 14h .
Special Security Program on Paulista Avenue
The secretary said in an interview with CNN that Paulista Avenue has become one of the main targets of theft and small thefts. For this reason, the city begins the special security program for the region.
According to the City Hall, in addition to the cyber pet, the staff must have daily patrolling of 376 agents, 36 vehicles, nine IOP (Special Operations) vehicles, 18 motorcycles, four bicycles, four roller skates, two drones, a bus for monitoring (Smartbus), 16 metropolitan civil guards with eight sniffer dogs, and 52 bilingual security cameras.
The perimeter of the program must comprise about three kilometers long between Cyclist Square to Oswaldo Cruz Square, with special attention in the sections near the subway stations, surrounding the São Paulo Art Museum (MASP), Rua Augusta and areas near the Japanese consulate. According to the secretary, the staff and the perimeter of action were defined based on the analysis of occurrence indicators in the region in the last nine months.
