SAG Awards 2021: from the (short) ceremony to the possible winners

It took the restrictions dictated by the pandemic to push the organizers to make the ceremonies more agile and, above all, shorter. Unlike the Oscars, which have often and willingly exceeded the three hours of broadcasting scheduled – that of 2002 still holds the record of 4 hours and 23 minutes – this year in the SAG Awards, the prize awarded by the actors’ union which is seen by many as a much more reliable tool than the Golden Globes for figuring out who will take the statuette home, in fact, they will last just one hour. This was decided by the organizers Kathy Connell, Todd Milliner and Sean Hayes, who decided to lighten the assignments in order to bring the public closer to evenings that, since the emergency broke out, are becoming more and more hybrid between guests in presence and remotely connected.

The 27th SAG Awards ceremony is scheduled for night between 4 and 5 April and broadcast in the United States live on TNT and TBS will be no exception: most of the acceptance speeches, the organizers say in an interview withHollywood Reporter, will be recorded, while for the stars in attendance there will be a very religious respect for the rules exactly as happened at the last Grammy Awards. As for the guidelines already drawn by the Golden Globes, it is clear that this edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards already has an undisputed winner: Chadwick Boseman. The actor, already awarded the golden globe in absentia and, most likely, also the Oscar, enters history thanks to the 4 SAG nominations that see him compete in 4 categories: best cast of a film both for Da 5 Bloods that for Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Best Supporting Actor and Best Leading Actor for the same films. “With 4 you are raising the level even more” wrote on Instagram his friend Michael B. Jordan, proud of the goal reached by Boseman but destroyed at the thought that he will not be able to go on stage or connect from home to enjoy it.

As regards the securities named, however, it seems that the prices of Threatening are growing both thanks to Youn Yuh-Jung, who could win the SAG for Best Supporting Actress, and thanks to Steven Yeun, who could have a chance for Best Lead Actor. Eyes on Jared Leto as Best Supporting Actor for Until the last clue e on Frances McDormand for the film Nomadland. As for the TV series, finally comes a nomination for Michaela Coel, incredibly snubbed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for her sublime work in I May Destroy You, even if the victory of The Crown in at least two categories – the one for the best drama series and the one for the best actress (after all, 3 cast members are nominated: Gillian Anderson, Olivia Colman ed Emma Corrin) – is practically certain. According to the bookmakers, the 2021 SAG Awards will still try to carry on a high profile (after all, 100,000 SAG-AFTRA members spread across the nation are voting, although many voting actors are also members of the Academy) and will open the doors of the Oscar for the winners: Since they were established, SAGs have, in fact, managed to predict Oscar win 19 times for actresses, including last year’s (Renée Zellweger), and 22 times for actors, including Joaquin Phoenix for Joker.
