SAG Awards 2022: from Will Smith to Ted Lasso, all the winners

With the Golden Globe era over, stained with ignominy for not being inclusive enough and boycotted by insiders who have always harbored mistrust of the choices of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, only the SAG Awards, the prizes awarded by the actors’ union who, to tell the truth, have always been more reliable than the Golden Globes in identifying the eligible candidates for the Oscars. The 28th edition, finally in attendance, took place on the night between 27 and 28 February in Los Angeles, reserving many surprises when compared, in fact, to those of the Golden Globes. Surprisingly, it was the fim that won over QUEUE, title produced by Apple TV + that tells the story of a deaf-mute family, awarded for the heaviest category of the SAG Awards: the one for the best cast – unlike the Oscars and the Golden Globes, in fact, the SAGs do not reward the best film, but the best assembly of the artistic cast of that production.

The film also managed to take home the SAG for Best Supporting Actor in Troy Kotsur, first deaf actor to be awarded at the ceremonywhile the most glittering categories, those for Best Actor and Best Actress in Leading Actress, went to respectively Will Smith for King Richard – A winning family, also awarded at the Golden Globe, ea Jessica Chastain for Tammy Faye’s eyesmanaged to defeat fearsome opponents such as Olivia Colman, protagonist of The dark daughterand Nicole Kidman, star of Being the Ricardos – one day we’ll do a separate editorial asking why Kristen Stewart didn’t get the nomination for that masterpiece by Spencer. The ad award closes the circle of the SAG cinema circuit Ariana DeBose for Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story by Steven Spielberg – his dancing performance to the tune of America -, while it is the TV series that reserve the most unexpected surprises.

The superfavorite Succession is “satisfied”, in fact, only with the SAG for the best cast of a drama series, while the awards for the best actors end up in the hands of the Netflix phenomenon Squid Game thanks to the interpretations of Lee Jung-jae, which beats both Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong of Successionand of HoYeon Jung, which raises the white flag for both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon nominated for the unsuccessful second season The Morning Show. The best cast in a comedy series – as well as at the Emmys – is, instead, that of Ted Lassoalso from Apple, also awarded for the best actor a Jason Sudeikis. Few twists, however, for other categories, like Michael Keaton and Kate Winsletawarded as the best actors of a miniseries for Dopesick And Murder in Easttownand Jean Smart as Best Actress in a Comedy Series for Hacks, still shamefully unpublished in Italy. However, sooner or later, the day will also come when someone will remember to reward Elle Fanning who, in The Great, available in Italy on StarzPlay, it managed to give a thrilling performance.
