SAG Awards: Everything you need to know about the 2025 edition

THE 31st edition of the Actors Union Award (SAG Awards) It happens this Sunday (23). The list of nominees is led by “A complete unknown” and “Wicked” with four indications each.

Does SAG Awards serve as an Oscar thermometer?

SAG Awards stands out for being the only significant award granted by actors and to actors which expands its relevance. It also shares a significant number of voters with the Oscars.

Members who vote for the Oscar acting categories, a group consisting of more than 1,000 professionals in the field, include members of the actors’ union, who also vote for the SAG Awards. Although a SAG Awards statuette often indicates a possible success in the Oscars.

To get an idea, in the last ten years, 33 of the 40 Oscar winners In the categories of best actor, best actress, best supporting actor and best supporting actress also won the SAG Award . The only exceptions were:

• 2024: Lily Gladstone beat SAG Award for “Moon of Flowers Killers”, but lost the Oscar to Emma Stone awarded “poor creatures”;
• 2021: Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis awarded by SAG for “the supreme voice of the blues”, did not take the Oscar, which was granted to Anthony Hopkins by “my father” and Frances McDormand by “nomadland”, respectively
• 2019: Glenn Close won the SAG for “The Wife” but lost the Oscar to Olivia Colman awarded “the favorite”. Furthermore, Emily Blunt won the SAG for “a silent place”, but was not even nominated for the Oscar
• 2017: Denzel Washington won the SAG for “an limit between us”, but the Oscar was delivered to Casey Affleck by “Manchester by the sea”;
• 2016: Idris Elba He was awarded by SAG for “Beasts of in Nation”, but received no indication to the Oscar.
