Saga of “The Talented Ripley” has relaunched books in Brazil

The five books of the Thriller saga centered on the character Tom Ripley They are relaunched in Brazil from this month, arriving from the first three volumes to bookstores in March and the other two in July.

Success with various adaptations for cinema, “The talented Ripley” and the other volumes of the series of Patricia Highsmith will win new editions by the intrinsic publisher after being sold out in the national market for years. The relaunch occurs due to the celebration of 70 years of the saga.

One of the most controversial characters in the literary universe, Ripley won his space among readers and gained several adaptations for film and streaming, being the latest award -winning miniseries produced by Netflix in 2024 and one of the most famous the 2000 film.

In “The talented Ripley, ”one of the most famous sociopaths in literature tries to settle in Manhattan after running away from home. Coming from a dysfunctional home, he is a master of small blows and theft.

Therefore, he ends up receiving an unusual proposal: traveling to Italy and convincing Dickie Greenleaf, his former friend, to take on family business. But Tom is quickly seduced by the luxury with which his target lives. And seduction soon becomes obsession and, in a succession of events, he ends up stealing not only his friend’s money, but also his identity.

In the saga’s second book, “Underground Ripley”, the protagonist lives a quiet life in southern France alongside his wife, heir to a great fortune. Working on a table forgery scheme, the scammer is forced to change his identity once again to credit the truth of his business.

In this book, HighSmith explores Ripley’s psyche, exposing his reasons for applying successive blows and increasing readers’ curiosity.

Already in “The Ripley Game”, the antihero no longer wants to get involved more illegal actions. He takes advantage of home life and paints paintings in his luxurious property. But it can soon get involved in the murders of mafia members.

As always, Ripley has a plan and intends to benefit when everything is over. In the volume with more psychological nuances and acid humor, Highsmith was praised for subverting the standards of the genre, placing his series as one of the most praised by critics.

The fourth and fifth book, “The Boy who followed Ripley” and “Ripley underwater”, respectively, will only hit bookstores in July. All volumes have 336 pages and will cost $ 39.90 in the e-book version and $ 59.90 in the printed version.
