Saint Laurent, the new (surreal) film is signed by Jim Jarmusch

Fashion and cinema have always had a strong bond, inspiring each other and often merging into each other: both forms of art and expression, after all, live on moving images, and in recent years the fashion universe has increasingly used the cinematographic medium for their own stories. In the last year, numerous fashion houses have decided to present their collections through short films, given the impossibility of organizing a show in attendance.

A surprising format, in many cases, which has allowed both to make known the creations of the new season, as well as to reaffirm and narrate the values of each brand. The latest cinematic creation in this sense is French Water, a exclusive fashion film made for Saint Laurent by none other than Jim Jarmusch.

The American director, famous for films such as Stranger Than Paradise, from 1984, and Paterson, from 2016, gave voice to the exquisitely French spirit of Saint Laurent, along with his own sophisticated and, at times, “edgy” aesthetics. The atmosphere is mysterious, lit by soft purple or neon lights, starting with a restaurant, where a lone waiter played by Leo Reilly observe the guests –Indya Moore, Julianne Moore and Chloë Sevigny – while looking for the elusive Charlotte gainsbourg, one of Anthony Vaccarello’s muses. The echoes of their whispers multiply, as Charlotte plays chess in solitude and dances in the spotlight, interspersing the scenes with the other protagonists and giving life to a continuous rotation and surreal of space and time.

Anthony Vaccarello, in fact, chose Jim Jarmusch to orchestrate a dreamlike story, in which a sensation of vertigo and curiosity is created, on the notes of the songs Remainder, by Sarah Lipstate, e Anemone, by Anton Newcombe. All, of course, studded with gorgeous looks in which the total black is the undisputed protagonist, with a few touches of red and white. Flaunted by a cast, if you didn’t notice, stellar.
