The month of January saw a 10% increase in mall sales compared to the same period last year. The biggest increase was seen in the North (27.1%) and Southeast (11.7%) regions, followed by the Northeast (8.7%), South (8.4%) and Central-West (5.5%) .
The data are from the Cielo Retail Shopping Center Index, released this Tuesday by the Brazilian Association of Shopping Centers (Abrasce).
The average amount spent by consumers in mall stores closed January 2022 at R$130.94, 16.4% higher than the R$112.46 in January 2021.
The study pointed out that the flow of visitors to shopping centers in January grew by 22.3% compared to the same period last year.
The president of Abrasce, Glauco Humai, said in a note that despite adverse macroeconomic conditions, the sector has been showing a gradual recovery, especially from the advances in vaccination and normalization of operation (hours and occupancy capacity).
According to him, this has been favoring the flow of visitors and the recovery of sales.
“We ended 2021 with good numbers and started 2022 with a good performance. We estimate sales growth of 13.8% in the year. The increase in the flow of visitors to the malls is a positive sign for the beginning of the year”, said the executive.
