Sales of discrete semiconductor devices increased by 26.7% last year, sensors and actuators – by 27.8%

Analyst firm IC Insights has released a report covering the OSD market, which includes products such as optoelectronics, sensors/actuators and discrete semiconductors. According to analysts, 2021 was a very successful year for all three categories. Sales of discrete semiconductor devices compared to 2020 increased by 26.7%, sensors and actuators – by 27.8%, optoelectronic devices – by 8.9%. In monetary terms, sales reached $35.2, $21.1 and $47.9 billion, respectively.

Note that the OSD market accounts for 17% of the entire semiconductor market, which also includes integrated circuits. This market reached $613.9 billion last year.

IC Insights experts attribute the rapid growth, which significantly exceeds the growth in previous years, to a sharp increase in demand and an increase in average selling prices.

It is predicted that this year that the total sales of OSD will grow by 11% and reach 115.5 billion dollars. At the same time, optoelectronics will grow by 13% to $54.2 billion, sensors/actuators by 15% to $24.3 billion, and discrete devices by 5% to $37.1 billion.
