The Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho (Republicans), stated this Tuesday (15) that Salgado Filho airport, in Porto Alegre (RS), will reopen for commercial flights next Monday (21).
According to the minister, 70% of flights that took place before the flood will resume immediately.
Costa Filho states that 1700 meters of track will be reopened on Monday and 1500 meters in December.
The statements were made after a meeting with the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT).
The airport was closed in early May due to the worst flood in Porto Alegre’s history. Since then, the Canoas Air Base – in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre – began to temporarily operate some of the flights that would have Salgado Filho as their origin or destination.
According to the minister, operations in Canoas will not be immediately interrupted.
“As demand decreases, we will reduce the number of canoe flights. We want to wait these next 3 months, October, November and December, to make the entire transition of all aviation in RS”, he concluded.
