Sally Berisha is suing the US Secretary of State for defamation

The former president and prime minister of Albania is appealing to Justice Sally Berisha against US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, responding to the latter’s announcement that Berisha and his family were banned from entering the United States.

The former president and prime minister of Albania announced in a press conference in Tirana that he personally sued Anthony Blinken for defamation in a “neutral” court in France.

Berisha, as reported by AMPE, reiterated that none of the accusations are correct and that the measure has a political background, while he did not explain the political reasons that set him against the policy of the USA, limited to mentioning that the case against him was prepared in the offices of the Prime Minister of the country Eddy Rama. He added that he will return to politics dynamically, implying that he has many “papers” in his hands.

In another development, the Special Anti-Corruption Court in Tirana yesterday sentenced former Attorney General Adriatic Lala to two years in prison for concealing income and unjustified assets. The court also ordered the seizure of five properties of the former attorney general.

He is the first senior Albanian justice to be punished in the country. It should be noted that, due to the political interests of the ruling parties, none of the Attorney Generals so far in the post-colonial period in Albania has been able to complete his term.
