Salman Rushdie: Hezbollah knows nothing about the murderous attack

An official of Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon said the militant group had no additional information on the stabbing attack on author Salman Rushdie.

“We don’t know anything about this case. So we will not comment,” the official told Reuters, speaking on condition of anonymity.

By contrast, in Iran, the ultra-conservative Kaihan newspaper congratulated the man who on Friday stabbed Rushdie, the author of the “Satanic Verses” in the US, who has been the target of a fatfa issued by Iran for more than 30 years.

“Well done to this courageous and duty-conscious man who attacked the renegade and evil Salman Rushdie,” said the newspaper, whose head is appointed by Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“Let us kiss the hand of the one who tore the throat of the enemy of God with a knife,” the publication continued.

The assailant stabbed Rushdie in the neck and abdomen at a cultural center auditorium in Chautauqua, in northwestern New York state.
