Salos was caused after racist comment of Dr. Jeffrey Lieberman, professor and head of the Columbia Department of Psychiatry, for the famous model Nyakim Gatwech from Sudan.
The professor was made available by the university after racist his statements. According to the Daily Mail, the professor apologized for posting a “racist and sexist” comment on Twitter, calling the model a “nature freak”.
Jeffery Lieberman responded to a tweet on Monday, falsely referring to the Sudanese model as the “Guinness World Record holder for the darkest skin on Earth” – which is not the case.
“Whether it is a work of art or a freak of nature, it is a beautiful spectacle,” Lieberman wrote on Twitter about Gatwech, known as the “Queen of Darkness.”
Following reactions to the comment, Lieberman deleted the tweet and posted an apology, saying “I sincerely apologize for any insult or indiscretion. Living and learning “.
He then emailed his colleagues on Tuesday, saying he was “deeply ashamed” of the tweets and “racist and sexist” comments, the New York Times reported.
“An apology from me to the black community, to women and to all of you is not enough,” Lieberman wrote in the email.
In a statement, Columbia University said Lieberman was made available not only as president of the Department of Psychiatry but also as chief psychiatrist at New York Presbyterian Hospital on Wednesday. The university said the decision was final.
