The wife of the Belgian ambassador to South Korea was caught in the CCTV video slapping a store clerk in the face for accusing her of stealing clothes.
Police in the country are now looking for Xiang Xueqiu, the wife of Belgian Ambassador Peter Lescouhier, to investigate the incident, following a lawsuit filed by the store employee.
The slap on April 9 was caught on security cameras of the store and the video was uploaded on social media, with many users asking for the apology of the Belgian embassy.
The cameras caught a masked customer, who was later identified by the authorities as Xiang, trying on clothes and leaving the store. An employee followed her, as she suspected that she had put a garment in her bag without paying for it.
Xiang then chases the clerk back to the store and angrily asks her to speak. A second clerk comes in to separate them and eats the cuff.
According to local media, police were unable to speak to her as Xiang was taken to hospital for unknown reasons.
The issue ended in a diplomatic incident: South Korean Foreign Minister says he called the Belgian ambassador to cooperate to investigate the case.
