Salvador City Hall dismissed, on Tuesday (10), the general director of the Administrative Directorate of the Municipal Department of Education (Smed), Flávio Henrique de Lacerda Pimenta, arrested by the Federal Police (PF) during Operation Overclean.
The dismissal was published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality – He held a commissioned position in the current management of the city.
Pimenta is suspected of being part of a criminal organization accused of bidding fraud, embezzlement of public resources, corruption and money laundering. During the arrest, the PF allegedly seized R$700,000 in cash from the server’s residence, in Salvador.
Operation Overclean, launched on Tuesday, is a joint effort between the Federal Police, the Federal Public Ministry, the Federal Revenue of Brazil and the Comptroller General of the Union. The objective of the operation is to dismantle the criminal organization, which would have diverted public resources through of overpricing in works and fraud in tenders, with a focus on parliamentary amendments and agreements.
To date, 15 people have been arrested and two remain at large. The operation also carried out 43 search and seizure warrants and orders to seize assets in different states, including Bahia, Tocantins, São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Goiás. Among the assets seized are cash, high-end properties, aircraft, boats and luxury vehicles, totaling R$162 million, according to the PF.
The criminal organization is suspected of having moved around R$1.4 billion, including R$825 million in contracts signed with public bodies in 2024 alone. Investigations indicate that the scheme mainly affected the National Department of Works Against Droughts (DNOCS), mainly in the State Coordination of Bahia (CEST-BA), in addition to other public bodies.
In addition to the arrests, the operation led to the dismissal of eight public servants, including the general director of the Administrative Directorate of the Municipal Department of Education (Smed), Flávio Henrique de Lacerda Pimenta.
