Sam Bankman-Fried repeatedly spread false or racist rumors about Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao prior to the collapse of FTX. This was stated by the director of strategy of the exchange Patrick Hillman.
A great read by @WilliamCohan at @PuckNews. One thing they missed, Sam was CONSTANTLY spreading fake rumors about @cz_binance, because shading him as an “evil Chinese” was critical to his scam. You can’t pretend to be Luke Skywalker without Darth Vader.https://t.co/oi9JxsqPyz

Hillman referred to publication in Puck magazine, where the story of the FTX collapse is told from the perspective of SkyBridge Capital hedge fund founder Anthony Scaramucci.
Scaramucci met Bankman-Freed in 2021. Subsequently, FTX acquired a stake in SkyBridge for $30 million, the hedge fund bought FTT exchange tokens for $10 million, which are now almost worthless.
The partners negotiated during a joint trip to the Middle East shortly before FTX ran into trouble in November 2022. The founder of the exchange tried to attract additional investments.
According to Scaramucci, during meetings with officials in Dubai, Bankman-Freed spread gossip about the head of Binance. A colleague who participated in these negotiations told the entrepreneur about this practice, which is inconsistent with business politeness.
Scaramucci suggested that information about the statements of the former FTX CEO reached Zhao and caused the latter’s decision to sell Binance’s FTT tokens for $ 500 million.
Hillman denied his conclusion, but confirmed that the company was aware of Bankman-Freed’s “denigration” of its head.
Sam denigrating CZ was the norm for us, @WilliamCohan. Had nothing to do with deciding to sell the worthless FTT on the company’s books.

In December 2022, Zhao called Bankman-Fried “one of the greatest swindlers in history”. He noted the desire of the founder of FTX to present him and other people as “bad guys” and himself “to present himself as a hero.”
According to Zhao, FTX paid an unnamed media outlet $43 million to publish a negative piece about Binance.
In January, Scaramucci spoke of his friendship with Bankman-Freed and called him a “traitor”.
