Saman Abbas' mother arrested in Pakistan

Shaheen Nazia, the mother of Saman Abbas, sentenced to life imprisonment by the Reggio Emilia court for the murder of her daughter, was arrested in Pakistan. According to Italian justice, he is guilty of the killing of the girl, which occurred on the night between 30 April and 1 May 2021 in Novellara. She had fled a few hours after her murder together with her husband, who had already been arrested and extradited.

The searches never stopped thanks to Pakistani law enforcement and Interpol. The woman was arrested in a raid by the police in Punjab, on the border with Kashmir. He will have to appear before the judges in Islamabad to begin the extradition process. It should be a shorter procedure than that for the husband since the woman has already been convicted of the murder of her daughter.

They say the reasons for the conviction that Abbas Shabbar and Shaheen Nazia received «literally accompanied his daughter to die» and it cannot be ruled out that the mother was the material perpetrator of the crime. They were both sentenced to life imprisonment, while the 16-year sentence was given to their uncle Danish Hasnain. According to the Court of Assizes, the decision to kill Saman would have been agreed a few tens of minutes before it took place by his parents and his uncle.

The mother's judges write: «In a firm and determined way, she blocks her husband with a resolute gesture, and moves onto the road with Saman, for that minute that does not allow us to exclude that she was the material executor».

Again according to the Court, the girl was not killed for refusing an arranged marriage, but because she wanted to leave the family home. After her parents discovered the ongoing relationship with Saqib and, above all, Saman's plan to leavethey first discussed with each other the solution to adopt in the face of Saman's new escape and, given that the imminent departure of the two for Pakistan, the following morning, did not allow them to wait any longer, they decided to put the girl in front of to the fait accompli, agreeing with Hasnain Danish that, in the event that she reiterated, as actually happened, that she wanted to leave home to return to Saqib, the uncle would have to intervene, making himself found on the dirt road in front to the house, on which the two parents will actually accompany their daughter a few moments after having informed Danish of their exit from the house, via the ring at 11.57pm”.
