Saman Abbas, the brother pressured by his fugitive mother: “Don’t say anything to the judges”

Saman Abbas’ brother, the 18-year-old of Pakistani origin killed on April 30, 2021 to have refused the arranged marriage by his family, he would be subjected to pressure and threats to recant his statements or avoid testifying in the trial. The boy is the prosecution’s key witness: the Reggio Emilia Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case against unknown persons and the Carabinieri have acquired copies of the messages, provided by the same young man, who will be heard in court on 27 October.

From the investigations of the investigators it appears that Saman Abbas’s brother has maintained contact with the mother and family members in Pakistan. Particularly since the father’s extradition, the pressure has intensified.

“My son, don’t say anything to the judges, what false things you say… Don’t say anything to anyone: the truth is the truth, falsehoods are falsehoods”, his mother Nazia, the only one of the five defendants accused of the murder still at large, told her son. The boy’s reply: «Either I kill myself or I send everyone to prison for life. I don’t tell lies.”

The woman, still wanted, maintained contact with her son through a relative’s cell phone. She pointed him to some acquaintances in Italy and encouraged him to go and visit them “at least for an hour” because they will be able to help him find work and «arrange the documents». And again: «Come and visit me at least for a week. While alive this is my only goal: to see my son with my own eyes.” In yet another message, an aunt directly invites him to “recant his statements”, saying that “everyone is innocent and no one is guilty”.
