Samsung has confirmed that it was hacked last week, stealing the company’s internal data and source code for Galaxy smartphone software.
The company assures that there was no leakage of personal data (either employees or customers). In addition, measures were taken to prevent further leaks.
Samsung did not name the perpetrators, but it appears to be LAPSUS$, the same hacker group that stole confidential information from Nvidia last week.
On Friday, a 190 GB archive was posted on the group’s Telegram channel, which supposedly contains the source code for the bootloader and biometric authentication systems on Galaxy devices.
A security breach has occurred involving some internal company data. Based on our initial analysis, the violation is related to some source code related to the operation of Galaxy devices, but does not include personal information of our consumers or employees. We do not currently expect any impact on our business or customers. We have taken steps to prevent similar incidents in the future and will continue to provide uninterrupted service to our customers.
