Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro: Excellent Sound Quality But A Not-So-Amazing Fit Within The Ear

Samsung claims that its latest Galaxy Buds Pro can reach up to 99% of noise cancellation, along with several other amazing features at a price of around $200. However, this is not true. Let’s delve into what makes this hard for Samsung’s new earbuds review to achieve.

Design

The design of the charging case is awesome: small, compact, and easy to carry in a ring-box shaped casing. The case is similar to the predecessors of Buds Pro and supports wireless charging and USB-C modes.

The design of the earbuds in Galaxy Buds Plus is a little oblong-ish, and with a rubber fin around the earbud, it feels like the seal is tightly secured. However, Samsung received several complaints from the users that it feels that the earbuds probe deep within their ear canals. Hence, Samsung tweaked the design of the earbuds in this latest Galaxy Buds Pro a little bit, and now, without a rubber fin around the earbuds and a slightly smaller shape, the seal seems to be not secure anymore.

So, people with different ear sizes and shapes may find the ‘fit’ of the earbuds lacking this time.

IPX 7 Rating

Galaxy Buds Pro has the highest water resistance rating in all of Samsung’s earbuds that have launched as yet. IPX means that they can remain in 3 meters of water depth for half an hour without getting affected.

Colors

The earbuds are available in Phantom Black, Silver, and Violet colors.

Sound Quality

Samsung has tried hard to get the sound quality extremely refined, and it has achieved that for sure. They added an 11-mm woofer for deeper bass sound and a 6.5-mm tweeter for richer treble. Both the changes have made the sound quality better than Buds Live and Buds Plus, the predecessors of Buds Pro.

However, the problem comes when the fit of the earbuds within the ears is not tight and well-secured. The sound quality may suffer a bit because of that, however, in the Galaxy Buds app, you can fiddle around and find a good sound setting.

If you try to push in your earbuds too much to achieve a better seal, you may end up pausing the sound.

The sound quality is great, but if compared with other earbuds in the market with the true-wireless technology, Buds Pro is still lacking.

Noise-canceling and automatic Ambient Mode

The noise-canceling feature is great if the earbuds fit well within your ears. Otherwise, you may find problems with the noise cancellation functionality.

Moving on, one interesting feature is the automatic setting of the Ambient Mode. Suppose you are listening to music with your noise cancellation on, and suddenly someone comes up and you start to talk to them. The earbuds will sense that and will automatically put on the Ambient Mode, which will lower the music and let you hear easily what the other person is saying. This mode can be turned off manually through the application too.

You can lower down the amplification of the Ambient Mode to make it closer to the Transparency Mode by Apple AirPods Pro that lets you hear the outside sounds very clearly, or you can amp it up pretty high so that even little sounds are amplified.

There is one problem, however. This feature works well with all Android phones, but it is not supported by iOS because Buds Pro does not link up with the Galaxy Buds app in iOS.

360 Audio

This feature allows a Spatial Virtual Audio Surround System for a more immersive user experience. According to Samsung, they have used Dolby Head Tracking Technology that enables the users to feel as if they are in the center of the scene within a movie or a show.

This feature is compatible with S21 phones only as of now and is not available for other Samsung smartphones, tablets, etc. It is also incompatible with other Android devices that are not from Samsung.

Voice calling and Noise reduction

There are three microphones and a Voice Pickup Unit that makes the voice sound very clear on calls. The added touch of background noise reduction is also pretty awesome.

Battery Life

You can get 5 hours of playback with a noise-canceling feature at moderate volume levels and Bixby voice wake-up mode on with 13 hours more in the charging case.

With the noise-canceling feature and Bixby voice wake-up system off, the battery life is 8 hours with 20 hours extra in the charging case.
