Ross Young, founder of research companies Display Supply Chain Consultants and DisplaySearch, who is rarely wrong in his predictions, claims that only one model of the iPhone 14 series will be equipped with displays made exclusively by Samsung.
Samsung is the industry leader when it comes to smartphone displays, but other manufacturers are catching up. The company was the sole supplier of LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max, while LG and BOE produced panels for the iPhone 13 and 13 mini.
Samsung will apparently only be the exclusive screen supplier for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro this year, with orders for the 6.7-inch Pro Max displays split between it and LG. Another source says that 20 to 25% of orders for the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 were received by BOE, while the rest, as well as orders for 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max screens, will be divided between LG and Samsung.
Apple is apparently going to have LG make displays for only one Pro model due to the company’s lack of experience in making high refresh rate LTPO panels. The source confirms that regular models will only support 60Hz refresh rates.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max may end up being slightly improved versions of last year’s smartphones that offer more RAM and an older design. Major changes are expected in older models.
We have already reported that the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max were shown in new images from the case manufacturer. In addition, the source says that Apple will stop releasing the iPhone 11 after the announcement of the iPhone 14 series in September.
