Android Auto Update Rolls Out Samsung SmartThings

After revealing about a collaboration with Google this year, it will add Nest devices to SmartThings. In addition to the release of the Galaxy S21 series, Samsung has announced that SmartThings will be introduced to Android Auto as well.

“The UI shown shows an app with a selection of automations on Android Auto, such as “Coming home” and “Going out,” this would allow a fast tap to perform actions such as turning lights on/off, opening/closing a garage door, or changing other devices.

Joe Kester posted on Twitter, on the graphical user interfcae a “locations” icon is available, but they can’t be sure what that actually does yet.

It is also uncertain if the SmartThings app will have any Android Auto integration with Google Assistant. However, the new update to SmartThings is currently available on the Play Store and adds Galaxy SmartTag support, too.

Samsung described that before returning home, users will be able to switch on porch lights and increase the temperature of their thermostat, all from the car.

Google has made Android Auto available outside of Europe in areas across the Indian Ocean, including Indonesia, Thailand, and neighboring countries, as well as African countries such as Angola and Botswana. Google has said that the addition of these new countries will provide support to Android Auto in the next few months.

How Does it Function?

A new Android Auto section also appears in the settings menu of the app, where users can choose the SmartThings devices that they want to monitor from the touchscreen display of the car.

From there, smart home gadgets can be selected, and up to a maximum of six items appear in the Auto control panel. While entering the house, users can as well opt to receive auto alerts for running a scene. All the home lights can be turned on before leaving the vehicle. A toggle for each device and a settings button at the top is provided for switching notifications.
