Samsung to develop chips for Waymo self-driving cars

Waymo, formerly owned by Google, is one of those startups that are successfully working on self-driving cars. They use advanced technology and advanced autonomous driving hardware. It goes without saying that only the best chips are installed in these cars, and Samsung is considered one of the top manufacturers of such chips, with which Waymo will cooperate.

According to South Korean media, Samsung has been selected as the chip developer for the next generation Waymo self-driving cars. Waymo recently began testing a driverless robo taxi service, ultimately aiming to revolutionize mobility. Samsung will develop a chip that will be able to process and analyze data collected from various sensors of an unmanned vehicle. In addition, such a chip will allow real-time communication with Google data centers to centralize vehicle functions.

As this is a very special project, Samsung’s Custom SOC Business Team is responsible for it. The company itself has not yet commented on this information. The South Korean giant is actively trying to find new customers for which the chips can be produced. Partnering with Waymo can go a long way towards attracting new customers as the self-driving car industry is growing at a fast pace. If Samsung can establish itself as a reliable partner, the company will have a great chance to gain a foothold in the self-driving car niche and become one of the leading chip suppliers for automakers.
