Samsung to share order with LG for LTPO displays for new iPhones

It has long been said on the web that Apple wants to switch to a new type of display for its iPhones. Allegedly, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, which will be released this fall, will be equipped with LTPO OLED panels. They will be supplied by two manufacturers by order of Apple, as reported today, April 9, by the Taiwanese business publication DigiTimes.

According to industry sources cited by the portal, Samsung Display will not be the exclusive supplier of LTPO OLED panels for the new iPhones as originally intended. The order for the screens will be split between him and another Korean manufacturer, LG Display, a subsidiary of the LG Group. Both of these suppliers are currently revamping their product lines to release new displays for Apple.

As for the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini, according to DigiTimes, they will be equipped with the same LTPS OLED displays as their predecessors. LG Display and BOE Electronics will be engaged in the production of screens for the younger representatives of the future flagship iPhone series.

The company plans to fully transfer all iPhones, with the exception of the SE-series, to LTPO OLED screens next year. And if Samsung and LG do not cope with their supplies, then the Chinese BOE will join the production.

The iPhone 13 or iPhone 12s lineup is expected to be unveiled in September 2021, according to Apple’s traditional timeline. But if there are any problems or delays in the supply chain again, then Apple may postpone the announcement to December.
