Samsung unveils a TV remote that charges from the sun and a router signal

Samsung was one of the first to present several of its interesting gadgets at CES 2022 at once, but in addition to gigantic TVs with support for a new gaming cloud platform, the South Korean giant also demonstrated a new generation Eco Remote. Its main feature is that the device does not need to use replaceable batteries. The company believes that due to this it will be possible to get rid of an impressive amount of AAA-type batteries – we are talking about 99 million unnecessary batteries in just 7 years, which seriously harm the environment.

In order to receive energy to perform its basic functions, the new Eco Remote is able to use sunlight and waves from nearby routers. It is worth noting that a small solar panel integrated into the case was also in the last generation of the Eco Remote, but the manufacturer decided to go further, using also the so-called recharging from radio frequencies. The remote is literally charged from a Wi-Fi router (or multiple routers), providing the owner with the ability to use the remote without having to constantly buy and change batteries in the controller.

However, it should be said that recharging from Wi-Fi routers is nothing new – the technology has been known for many years, but is not widely used due to the fact that it is capable of providing energy only to devices with extremely low power consumption. But, probably, for a remote control with a solar panel, this will be an additional bonus, allowing you not to worry about the charge level. And, of course, the manufacturer did not rely only on the sun and Wi-Fi routers – if the user needs to use the gadget, and the charge is not enough, he can always connect the USB Type-C charging cable.
