Samsung’s new 200MP camera has the smallest pixels. It’s smaller than the 50MP sensor on the Pixel 6

In September 2021, Samsung introduced its first 200MP image sensor for mobile devices. And now, nine months later, it has announced another 200-megapixel camera. The new module is called ISOCELL HP3 and boasts the industry’s smallest pixels.

The ISOCELL HP3 has a pixel size of 0.56 micrometers, which is 12% smaller than its predecessor. Samsung’s new camera is smaller than the 50-megapixel sensor found in the Pixel 6. And according to the manufacturer, the ISOCELL HP3 reduces the surface area of the camera module by about 20%, allowing premium smartphone manufacturers to keep their compact size.

Samsung’s new sensor features a Super QPD solution for more accurate and faster autofocus. Thanks to Tetra pixel technology, which combines four pixels into one, the camera can capture unsurpassed image quality even in low light, such as indoors or at night. And the improved Smart-ISO Pro feature maximizes the dynamic range of Samsung’s new mobile sensor.

Samsung ISOCELL HP3 samples are already available to smartphone manufacturers for testing. Mass production of the new sensor will begin later this year.
