Samsung Display Brings Smaller Laptop Bezels

The company allows smaller bezels without the need of the laptop’s camera to be moved or shifted. As per information, this technology has been designed for PCs, named as “Samsung Blade Bezel.” The manufacturers claimed that the under-screen cameras are what turns the bezel into smaller sizes, and can also convert the OLED display into a thinner and lighter screen.

However, Samsung’s Display under-panel camera has not been mentioned for the first time. Samsung Display talked about its under-display camera technology in 2018, while giving a presentation on the future phone design. The following year, rumors were heard that the technology could be ready to be used by smartphones in the upcoming one or two years.

Currently, the under-screen camera technology has been made available to laptops. Unlikely, this placement means that the camera will be directed at the user from a very low point and not at eye-level.  It has been notified that the concept was taken by Huawei’s MateBook X Pro which contains small screen bezels with a built-in camera inside its keyboard. XPS 13 by Dell was the first device that revealed a near zero bezel surrounding the display, but those were said to be big enough for a webcam and also had a low camera quality.

Besides other factors, the image quality of the Samsung under-screen camera has been expected to be of a better quality than Dell XPS 13. However most built-in cameras provide poor quality images. Although, it has been said that Pixelbook Go and Surface Laptop 3, are more likely to have larger bezels which result in good quality images and provide better webcams.

Samsung Display not only provides panels to for its own devices but also to various companies, which means that the Samsung Blade Bezel technology is more likely to be seen on a wider market.

According to reports, the first smartphone incorporated with an under-display selfie camera was launched in 2020 which was provided on the ZTE Axon 20 5G, but the performance of the feature was of low-quality. The selfie camera pictures have been said to be poor, and the resolution was lower than the entire screen.

Elec earlier reported that for the under-screen cameras to be available on Samsung’s smartphones, it may make its debut in the company’s third-generation Fold. The public is expecting laptops to arrive before the Galaxy Z Fold 3 which might soon be introduced, with its under-display camera.
