Samsung’s OLED screen shipments hit iPhone 12 mini

In January 2021, Samsung Display OLED panel shipments fell 9% from the previous month, reaching 45 million units.

The main reason for the decline in sales, according to TheElec, is associated with low demand for Apple iPhone 12 mini smartphones. The Cupertino giant released four iPhone 12 models last year. The lineup as a whole is very popular, but sales of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini were much lower than expected.

Notably, the South Korean display manufacturer is the sole supplier of OLED displays for the iPhone 12 mini smartphones. These “rigid” OLED panels use a glass substrate and are relatively cheaper than flexible OLED panels that use polyimide. Similar displays are used in flagship smartphones.

In January, worldwide shipments of OLED panels in the first quarter reached 53 million units. Samsung, as noted, shipped 45 million units, or about 85% of the total.
