Sanremo 2022, Filippo Scotti and Marco Mengoni against the haters

Marco Mengoni on stage with the young Sorrentino, that is Filippo Scotti, protagonist of It was the hand of God. The two artists in Sanremo 2022 staged a dialogue on social hatred. Then Marco Mengoni sang L’essenziale, the song with which he won Sanremo in 2013.

A succession of hateful messages, those read by the two on stage, one after the other, like lunges. And then two articles of our Constitution.

Here the text of the dialogue:

Constitution, article 21: “Everyone has the right to freely express their thoughts in speech, writing and any other means of dissemination”.

Translated: you can say what you want.
But you can’t say the fuck you want.
There is a limit.

Article 3: “Everyone has equal social dignity without distinction of sex, race, language, religion, political opinion, social conditions”.

You can say what you want if you respect others, otherwise you are not exercising your right to speak, you are violating someone’s dignity.

A keyboard can be a weapon.
It must be used with humanity, always.
Thinking that certain things we would never write to them is not enough …

Even if we believe ourselves acquitted, we are still involved.

We should try to be kind …

And not because the target could be our sister, our best friend, our mother
You just have to do it.

by Marco Mengoni, Filippo Scotti and Luca Bottura

Filippo Scotti then in the center of the stage read the poem At a certain point by Franco Arminio.

At a certain point
you must understand
than the pain you suffered
you don’t have to suffer it
endlessly.
Go on vacation,
poor adult life
he cannot pay indefinitely
the debts of childhood.
Declare your sins finished,
served the sentence.
From now on every day
it will be as before
but inside you
clearer and more real, clearer
and sincere.
You just owe the greatest sweetness possible
who will come and who will go away.
It’s a party in your heart,
celebrate somehow
the hearts of others.
