Sanremo 2022, no disqualification for Gianni Morandi

The new year arrives and the first “case” of Sanremo 2022 arrives (fortunately already back). In fact, he appeared on Gianni Morandi’s Facebook page a backstage video that had a large part of the unreleased track as background Open all doors, with which the singer will compete from 1 to 5 February. This was reported by the site All Music Italia: «The video, in about half an hour, was deleted from the artist’s profile, but the comments of those who had seen it were already over 200“. In a few hours the case was much discussed on the web but a press release from Rai has just confirmed that Gianni Morandi will not be disqualified from the race.

“Regarding the involuntary dissemination of the piece by Gianni Morandi, competing at the 72nd Sanremo Song Festival, the Artistic Direction, in agreement with Rai1, does not consider it necessary to exclude the aforementioned song because it was a pure technical inconvenience, due to Morandi’s need to wear a brace on his right hand which has undergone several interventions following the accident which took him a few months does».

The official RAI statement continues: «The impediment to the movement of the hand caused the error for which Morandi put on the net the back stage he was seeing privately. Morandi never remembers a social media manager for managing his Facebook profile and therefore made the technical error mentioned above“. And finally the confirmation: «So the song and the artist Morandi remain in the competition».

It is not the first time that a part of an unreleased song has been published by mistake before the official presentation on the Ariston stage, during the race. Last year, in fact, also Fedez had been the protagonist of a similar episode. Sharing a few moments in the rehearsal room on Instagram with his followers, the singer (competing with Francesca Michielin with Call me by name) had also published a few seconds of the unreleased track, creating a media fuss.

On that occasion, the artistic direction of the Festival, “while expressing serious condemnation”, did not feel “that it should take any measures in this regard. The duration of the interpretation in the video – posted and subsequently deleted by the artist – is in fact extremely short and such as not to reveal the piece itself, which cannot be considered widespread and therefore maintains the novelty characteristic required by the event regulations. “.

Inside the Amazon docu-film The Ferragnez those are witnessed moments of apprehension on the part of the artist, between a phone call to Amadeus and waiting for the response from the Commission.

Referring to what happened on Morandi’s Facebook page before the official response from Rai, Eddy Anselmi – one of the leading experts in the history of the Festivàl, as well as the author of an encyclopedia on Sanremo, which also lists other similar precedents – had commented on Twitter: “Until it is written in black and white that such things done in any capacity on the social channels of the competing artists will lead to disqualification, common sense and precedents require archiving».

References are to the case of Paola and Chiara in 2005, when 30 seconds of their song was released online. It was a material error that sparked a controversy, but common sense prevailed. Same goes for Nicolas Bonazzi in 2010: «It was the first time that the songs of the New generation they were available from December on Rai sites. But Bonazzi’s was already on his MySpace months before. There is no place to proceed ». It’s still: “D’Alessio-Bertè case, # Sanremo2012, 30 seconds of the duet on YouTube in early January, before the song is admitted to the Festival. Only a few days after the announcement, the video becomes private, but some traces remain. To breathe stay in the race », tweets Anselmi.

All is well that ends well, then. We will listen to the piece by Gianni Morandi Open all doors (written by Jovanotti and produced by Mousse T) on the Ariston stage. This is confirmed by the artistic direction of the Festival in agreement with Rai 1.
