Sanremo 2022: the disappointment of Ornella Muti

We have been told that “valletta” is an irreverent and ancient, disrespectful and primitive term, capable of debasing a figure who, over the years, has almost always focused on beauty without being able to add a comment, a joke or anything because they have also said that the valleys are valleys when they are “silent”. Ornella Muti is not a valley: she is a professional who has built a solid career as an actress and as an artist, and it is for this reason that a little sorry that her participation in the first evening of the Sanremo 2022 Festival has been reduced to this type of intervention, to a show without flashes and with limited and limited interventions, unable to generate empathy and involvement both in the audience in the hall and in the home one.

Ornella Muti made no secret of being excited, and we certainly couldn’t blame her: that stage and those stairs would make anyone tremble because we were the ones who loaded that stage and those stairs with a meaning too great to hold and to amortize for anyone who steps on them. However, sorry that we have not been able to think of something more, to a number, to a curtain, to something capable of underlining Muti’s artistic qualities, such as the self-irony that has always distinguished her, perhaps creating an ideal continuation with her hilarious cameo in Magic Nights by Virzì. Calling her just to throw two Big ones and help Amadeus put on his jacket to go get the Måneskins, let’s face it, was a wasted opportunity.

Being an actress does not affect the added value that an artist can bring to Sanremo – think, for example, of Matilda De Angelis, who delighted for the first time as a co-host at the Ariston, earning the praise of the public and the approval of critics. We are all different, and on this we agree: we do not know who the decision to limit the guest only to this has depended on it – whether by the authors or by Muti herself -, but the fact is that, instead of remembering the great ones, from Tognazzi to Monicelli, with whom she worked, it would have been nice to see Ornella Muti in Sanremo show why they chose her, demonstrating once again to everyone that incredible talent that made her known in Italy and in the world. Pity.
