Sanremo 2023, Blanco smashes everything (and Morandi cleans up)

Just a few moments. Blanco is on stage, singing The island of roses, his latest song. That something is not right is understood immediately, when the singer touches his headphones and asks for help from the sound engineers (“the voice!”). But the problem evidently isn’t resolved and Blanco gives up singing and literally smashes everything. He lifts the vases of flowers from the ground and throws them to the ground, it is a destructive fury, he laughs and in the meantime disintegrates every piece of scenography he runs into.

An incredulous silence falls in the press room and in the Ariston. A bewildered Amadeus asks for explanations: «What happened? What is the meaning of this gesture?». For a moment we think of a prepared show. Instead Blanco replies confused: «Nothing, nothing worked, I couldn’t hear the voice in the headphones and so I decided to have fun anyway and make a mess». Open up heaven. The audience joins in protest chants and boos. Which intensify when Amadeus, to put a piece together, offers Blanco to return to the stage later to sing. Boos and protests. “I can sing alone too, I do it because I like music,” replies Blanco.

Amadeus attempts conciliation (“Blanco, explain, they protest because they saw you break the vases”), but, after the failed attempt, dismisses the singer. See you later. Meanwhile he throws himself into a laugh: «I haven’t seen something like this since the days of Morgan and Bugo». Gianni Morandi enters with a broom to clean up the remains of the stage. The operation “defuse the incident” seems to work. And now? The controversy certainly does not end there.
