Sanremo 2023: how to vote

Years go by but the voting mechanism of San Remo Festival and the exact incidence of the percentages that matter more or less depending on the evenings continue to be unclear to many. As we know, many variables come into play in this apparently very complex machine which, in the end, decide the overall winner based on the sum of the individual counts, even if we all know that often the podium of one team does not correspond to that of another – this is the case, for example, of the first and second place of Mahmood and Ultimo at Sanremo in 2019, when one was first in the Press Office vote and the other was the favorite in Televoting -.

To dispel any doubts, however, let’s try to clarify and explain how the vote works which, from evening to evening, will decree the provisional rankings that we will see late at night until the definitive one which will be announced during the final on 11 February .

How to vote in Sanremo: the scheme from evening to evening

So let’s go into detail. In the first and second eveningi.e. those of 7 and 8 February, which will see the performance of 14 Bigs per evening, only the Press Office votes (TV and print media, radio and web, each of which will account for one third of the ranking which will be communicated in the final stages). On the third nighti.e. that of February 9, the vote is divided 50 and 50 between the Televoting from home and there Demoscopic Jury. On the fourth nightthat of covers and duets, the structure is a little more complex: what counts in different percentages is, in fact, the Televoting from home (34%), the Room Press (33%) and the Jury Demoscopic (33%). Finally, a completely different story applies to the fifth and final evening: in the first part you vote from home only with Televotingwhile for the final 5 positions of the artists in the competition – until 2022 there were 3 – the songs are voted again by all 3 components and with the same incidence percentages of the cover night, i.e.: the Televoting from home (34%), the Press Room (33%) and the Demoscopic Jury (33%).

Televoting

To express one’s preference from home during the third evening, the fourth (that of the covers) and the final, it will be possible to send a SMS to the number 475.475.1. indicating the number assigned to the song-artist of each evening, or use landline phone calling L’894.001 and follow the information of the pre-recorded message. As stated in the official regulation of the Sanremo Festival, Televoting by telephone call can only be made by fixed users located in Italy of Tim, Wind Tre, A2A Smart City, Convergenze, Tiscali, Uno Communications, Brennercom and Sky Wifi, while not it is possible to carry it out from public telephones, from mobile phones, or from fixed users located abroad. Televoting via SMS can only be carried out by mobile users of the telephone operators TIM, Vodafone, Wind Tre, Poste Mobile, Coop Italia, iliad, Kena and ho.mobile.

How much does it cost to vote

As the official rules state, landline cost (regardless of distance, time of day, call duration and carrier) will be Euro 0.51 VAT included. The cost of each SMS sent will, instead, of Euro 0.50 VAT included.

What is the opinion poll jury

We often mention it, but what is it and, above all, who does the phantom Demoscopic Jury actually consist of? It is a group of voters made up of 300 people – last years there were 1,000 – that they vote through an ad hoc application different from that of televoting and the press room. The participants are chosen by an institute specialized in the field of surveys which, through Rai, identifies people who are experts in a given sector, in this case the musical sector, to allow them to express their judgment in a complete and fair manner. The Demoscopic Jury tries to represent as heterogeneous a sample as possible: the two requisites required are to be over 16 years old and to express interests in the world of entertainment, concerts and music in general.
